Year End Update 2012

The question of whether earthquakes are increasing is a common question about the timing of end times prophecies. Scripture states that earthquakes will appear in various (or diverse) places – Mark 13:8. Luke 21:11 adds that those earthquakes will be “great”. It is only when one ties this scripture in with the indicator that they will be like the beginning of birth pains that some believe that earthquake frequency and intensity will increase, as do birth pains during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester.

According to USGS statistics, the normal yearly average for earthquakes is 134 per year for those between 6.0 and 6.9 on the Richter scale, 15 per year for those between 7.0 and 7.9, and 1 for those greater than 8.0.

2012
2012 has been a remarkably quiet year for great earthquakes, except in the 8.0 and above range.
1. Quakes in the 8.0 and above range were double the average.
2. Quakes in the 6.0 to 7.9 range were well below average.
4. The number of large earthquakes (127) this year was much fewer than last year (204).
5. Deaths attributed to earthquakes this year were also significantly lower than previous years.
6. Earthquake swarms of minor magnitude, however, appear to be increasing worldwide:
• Chile, Finland, Greece, Taiwan, and California were prime locations for swarms
7. Certain areas have seen marked increases in total earthquakes:
• Japan saw 3,134 quakes in 2012, which is about 1,000 more than the annual average in recent years.
• Costa Rica, saw 6,245 earthquakes in 2010, 5,483 in 2011 and 11,049 in 2012

2011
2011 was in many respects an average year for earthquakes:
1. The total number of great earthquakes this year is above average, especially in the 6.0 to 7.9 range, with 50 above average in the 6.0 to 6.9 range, and 4 above average in the 7.0 to 7.9 range.
2. Earthquakes continued to be in various places.
3. The number of “great” earthquakes greater than 8.0 remained at the normal of 1
4. The total number of earthquakes this year was fewer than last year.
5. The greater earthquakes appear to be increasing each year.

2010
2010 was the year the Earth struck back. Earthquakes, heat waves, floods, volcanoes, super typhoons, blizzards, landslides and droughts killed at least a quarter million people in 2010 – the deadliest year in more than a generation:
1. The total number of earthquakes in 2010 was a tad below average.
2. The number of earthquakes above 7.0 are above normal.
3. The number of “great” earthquakes may, repeat may, be increasing, but the totals for this year do not prove conclusively that this is so.
4. The total number of earthquakes this year may not be the best indicator of the season on God’s calendar!

Prophecy continues to unfold as foretold by the Hebrew prophets. The stage is being set. That being said, one can only ask: “How imminent is the return of Yeshua Ha’Mashiach?”

Luke is not the only writer of scripture to prophecy earthly disasters. Isaiah, Ezekiel, Zechariah, Malachi, and Revelation all prophecy disasters throughout the planet. The question becomes; “Have we seen any of these events in 2012?” Lets take a look:

Prophecy Sign: Signs In The Heavens
Luke 21:25 – “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.”

A truly gigantic coronal mass explosion (CME) happened on the sun in November, fortunately on the side of the sun facing away from the earth. The CME hurled into space, releasing a huge burst of plasma. November also saw a double peak in the Leonid meteor shower display, a very rare occurrence – the norm is only a single peak. Mid November there was a total eclipse of the Sun visible from Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. December gave us the Geminid meteor shower, and the closest approach of the asteroid known as Toutatis.

Prophecy Sign: Strange Noises
Romans 8:22 – “We know that all creation is still groaning and is in pain, like a woman about to give birth.”

Earlier this year I blogged about Strange Sounds that appeared to be emanating from the earth and sky. These noises continue to hit various regions. Just two weeks ago the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency in Augusta, Georgia, was flooded with calls with reports from residents hearing loud booms over a period of several days.

Prophecy Sign: Waters Turned Blood Red
Revelation 16:3-4 – “The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead man, and every living thing in the sea died. Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of waters; and they became blood.”

Recent articles are reporting on bodies of water, along with rain storms, turning blood red. Are these harbingers of what is yet to come? Algae is thought to be the cause of the red color of the Bondi and Clovelly beaches in Sydney, Australia. Likewise, the Sea of Azov in Russia. The Yangtze River in China turned red with no known explanation, as did the Beirut River in Lebanon. Red rains pummeled citizens of Kerala, India, as well as Sri Lanka. Again, no explanation for these. Salt is blamed for a lake turning blood red in the Camargue area of southern France.

Tornadoes
Tornadoes also continue to hit worldwide with several hitting just in December. At least four people were killed when Cyclone Evan slammed into Samoa and Fiji. Two people were seriously injured and twelve others were lightly wounded in Jakarta. As many as six tornadoes slammed four southern states.

Volcanoes
Volcanic activity this year has increased incrementally, especially in the last couple of months. Ecuador issued an orange alert, the second-highest warning level, for towns near the Tungurahua volcano. Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico has risen again to about 3 emissions per hour, The Fuego volcano in Guatemala continues to erupt a lava flow towards the Ceniza canyon. The Plosky Tolbachik volcano in Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula is spilling a record 1,200 metric tons of lava every second. And so it goes worldwide. There is new activity or unrest in about seventeen volcanoes, and continuing activity in over twenty volcanoes.

Prophecy Sign: Earthquakes and Earthquake Swarms
Luke 21:11 – “And there shall be great earthquakes in various places . . .”
This year saw double the amount of 8.0 and above magnitude earthquakes. In addition, earthquake swarms are appearing in many areas of the world, and are quite normal around active volcanic regions. Navidad, Chile has seen over 170 tremors in December alone. Eyjafjördur, Finland over 1,500. Earthquake swarms centered beneath the rhyolite domes in the Coso Volcanic Field of California have been observed as well as 2000 micro-earthquakes near the island of Nisyros, Greece. Corsicana and Timpson areas of Texas have also seen swarms of minor magnitude earthquakes. Taiwan has not been exempt.

Sink Holes
Sinkholes have made the news this year big time. While it is true that many of these sinkholes have been due to rain, flooding, and broken sewer and water mains, a number have not. And a number of these sinkholes are not tiny holes only big enough to bury a small animal or a man. These sinkholes are huge, behemoth anomalies that can swallow up 100 foot trees, houses, football sized plots of land. They have appeared in Ohio, Louisiana, Florida, and California. The Ohio sinkhole devoured four football fields of land. The Louisiana sinkhole is so large that it is feared it may swallow an entire town. In Lafayette, California, a giant sinkhole swallowed two lanes of a street in a residential neighborhood. La Center, Oregon was lucky, this sinkhole only swallowed a car. The United States isn’t the only country to experience these holes. A sinkhole in Nanjing, China consumed a large public bus. A vegetable market in Guyuan City suddenly opened up, leaving a hole over 150 feet wide and almost 20 feet deep.

Prophecy Sign: Flooding
Luke 21:25 – “And upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring . . .”
Flooding throughout the globe is the final category we will explore. Torrential rains hit Bangladesh in June and July, stranding over 200,000 homeless and killing at least 70. Northern England and Wales were flooded in November, disrupting travel, flooding over 800 homes, and killing at least 2. Queensland, Australia was hit in January, March, and again in December. The Philippines were flooded in both August and December, the results of typhoons, again leaving thousands homeless and killing at least 74. And The United States was hit by Sandy in late October, leaving millions homeless and killing at least 110 in the United States, 2 in Canada and 67 in the Caribbean. Russia, Italy, Nigeria, Kenya, and Pakistan were also hit by floods.

Conclusions
Isaiah, Ezekiel, Zechariah, Malachi, Luke and Revelation all prophecy disasters throughout the planet. Are we seeing any of these events today? Indeed, we are seeing explosions on the sun, asteroid and meteor showers! We are seeing earthquake swarms, sinkholes, and increasing volcanic activity! We are seeing water turning the color of blood. We are seeing floods. We are seeing events that have never happened before on such an enormous scale in all of recorded history.

Are these events an indication that major earth changes are coming? Are these harbingers of Yeshua’s imminent return? Time will tell. Prophecy continues to unfold as foretold by the Hebrew prophets. The stage is being set. That being said, one can only ask: “How imminent is the return of Yeshua Ha’Mashiach?”
