Parallels Between Yeshua And Old Testament Patriarchs
Isaac, A Parallel To Yeshua, The Messiah
Isaac was the son of Abraham, the father of all the faithful (Romans 4:16), and also father of the nations. He was sent to Mount Moriah, and carried the wood upon which he would be sacrificed. This is a picture of Yeshua, who is also the son of the father (Yahweh), goes to Jerusalem, and carries the cross upon which he was sacrificed as a propitiation for sin. Those who accept His sacrifice become sons of Abraham in faith.
Isaac
• Isaac was the son of Abraham, the father [of all the faithful] (Romans 4:16)
• Isaac was sent to Mount Moriah, the present site of the Temple Mount
• Isaac carried the wood upon which he would be sacrificed as an offering to God (Genesis 22:2-10)
• A lamb replaced Isaac as the sacrifice
Yeshua
□ Yeshua is also the son of the father
□ Yeshua also goes to Mount Mariah
□ Yeshua also carries the cross (wood) upon which he was sacrificed as an offering to God
□ Yeshua is the lamb that is sacrificed
Joshua and Yeshua
What an amazing picture Joshua’s walk is of the Messiah’s work at Calvary with possible implications for Israel’s and true believer’s restoration to the Promised Land 2000 years after Yeshua’s “crossing over”.
Joshua (Jehoshua) Salvation of YA., Yahweh is salvation
• Hosea’s name is changed to Joshua by Moses, thus denoting that Yahweh is salvation
• Israel did not enter the Promised Land under the leadership of Moses, who represents the Law
• Israel enters the Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua
• Israel enters the Promised Land on the third day after being instructed how to cross the River Jordan
• Israel enters the Promised Land about 2000 cubits behind the Ark of the Covenant
• When the Priests entered the Jordan, the water backed up all the way to the city of Zaretan (their distress) and to the city of Adam.
• After crossing, Joshua circumcised them
Yeshua (Jesus), Salvation, Christ our King
□ Yeshua is the Savior
□ The promises cannot be obtained under the Law: the Law cannot bring salvation
□ Believers enter THE Promised Land through Yeshua, THE Savior
□ We are now at the start of the third day since Yeshua rose into Heaven
□ We are now about 2000 cubits behind our Ark, Yeshua!
□ Yeshua’s blood washed away the sin and distress of mankind all the way to Adam
□ Yeshua circumcises our hearts
Moses and Yeshua
Moses life parallels the life of Yeshua in dozens of ways. Here are a few:
Moses
• Exodus 1:8-16 – Pharaoh orders all Jewish male babies killed in order to prevent the Hebrews from revolting against his authority
• Exodus 1:17 – Pharaoh is unable to prevent Moses from dying. Moses frees his people from Egyptian bondage
• Exodus 2:1-10 – Moses, the son of the oppressed people, grows up as Egyptian royalty
• Exodus 3:1 – Moses works as a shepherd before leading the Hebrews out of Egypt
• Exodus 5-11 – Moses challenges the authority of Pharaoh, and despite many miracles, Pharaoh fails to recognize the power of Yahweh
• Exodus 12:12-13 – Yahweh spares the firstborn sons of the Hebrews because of the blood on the doorposts and lintels
• Exodus 12:29-31 – The death of Egypt’s sons causes Pharaoh to release his hold on the Yahweh’s chosen people
• Exodus 12:14-21 – Yahweh commands the children of Israel to remember how he redeemed them by celebrating the Passover
Yeshua (Jesus), Salvation, Christ our King
□ Matthew 2:1-16 – Herod orders Jewish male babies under the age off two to be killed to prevent the Messiah from causing a revolt against his authority
□ Matthew 2:19-21 – Herod is unable to prevent Yeshua from dying. Yeshua frees his people from the bondage of sin
□ Matthew and Luke – Yeshua, the King of Kings, grow up as a son of the oppressed people, spending part of his youth in Egypt.
□ John 10:11 and 10:14 – Yeshua is the Good Shepherd and leads his people out of bondage
□ John 10:32 – Yeshua challenges the authority of the Pharisees and Sadducees, and despite many miracles, the religious leaders fail to recognize the power of Yahweh
□ John 3:16, Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:14,Hebrews 9:12 – Yahweh does not spare His firstborn son, but sends Him to shed His blood on a wooden cross
□ Romans 8:2 – Yeshua’s death causes sin and death to lose its grip on those who believe in Him and His sacrifice as the unique atonement for sin
□ Luke 22:9 – As Yeshua celebrated the Passover with His disciples He commands them to eat the unleavened bread and drink the cup of wine as a remembrance of the redemption He is about to accomplish
Parallels, Patterns, Pictures – Periods of 40
Moses and Yeshua
Moses’ life can be separated into 3 periods of 40 years.
• The 1st period of 40 years began with Moses being placed in the water of the Nile.
• The 2nd period of 40 years is spent in the wilderness in the land of Midian (strife) after Moses attempts to make peace between the two Hebrew brothers who were fighting. (figurative of Israel and Judah; the two “sticks” of Ezekiel 37:15-22) They reject him and the deliverance that he offered. Note that the prince of Midian had 7 daughters. ( Possibly symbolic of the 7 churches? )
• The 3rd period of 40 years begins after the burning bush when Moses returns to deliver the children of Israel from their bondage to the power of Pharaoh. (symbolic of the Adversary and/or gentile power?)
• This time he was successful and they agree to follow him.
Yeshua (Jesus), Salvation, Christ our King
Now fast forward about 1500 years from Moses.
□ Yeshua the Messiah, of whom Moses was just a shadow, is baptized in the water of the Jordan river by John.
□ Immediately he went and spent 40 days in the “wilderness” to be tempted by Satan.
□ At the end of this 40 days he came and preached Deliverance. (Luke 4:17-21) Most of the Children of Israel again rejected His attempted deliverance. A short time later they killed Him.
□ After Yeshua “crossed over” from death unto life he was see of them 40 days and then He ascended into heaven. This time he is successful and many agree to follow him.
Conclusion
Parallels, patterns, pictures, and types are the backbone of scripture, are cyclical and give us many ways to understand current history and what the future holds. We are now about 2000 years (2000 cubits) away from Yeshua crossing over. We are entering that third day, as Yahweh counts time. Yeshua’s return is imminent – the season of His return is upon us.
