Prophecy Sign: Earthquakes and Earthquake Swarms
Mark 13:8 – “There will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines . . .”
Luke 21:11 – “And there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.”
The question of whether earthquakes are increasing is a common question about the timing of end times prophecies. Scripture states that “great” earthquakes will appear in various (or diverse) places and that they will be like the beginning of birth pains. As of this date, I believe that the birth pains have not yet manifested.

This year, 2015, has been another remarkably quiet year for “great” earthquakes, but total number of earthquakes are over quadruple the average amount (24815 – 2005 to 2012) and over six times the amount in 2012 (18328).

1. Quakes in the 8.0 and above range (1) were only the average (1).
2. Quakes in the 7.0 to 7.9 range (19) were 128% above average (15).
3. Quakes in the 6.0 to 6.9 (125) range were 7% below average (134).
4. The number of large earthquakes (145) this year was 3% below the expected yearly average (150).
5. The total number of earthquakes (115853) is once again greater than the 2013 total (93436), and 6 times greater than the total number in 2012 (18328).
6. The total number of earthquakes (115853) is 3.6 times greater than any in any of the past ten years (31777).
7. Both Nevada and Oklahoma have seen M2 to M4 earthquake swarms this past year, with the strongest reaching 4.7 on the Richter scale. Oklahoma alone has seen over 850 earthquakes of magnitude three or greater. Compared to 584 of the same magnitude in 2014 and 109 in 2013, the trend is clear: earthquakes are on the rise. San Ramon, California, saw 446 earthquakes in just a two week period in October. More than 40 small earthquakes were recorded in east-central Idaho and 30 in Reno, Nevada in December.

Prophecy Sign: Signs In The Heavens
Luke 21:25 – “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.”
The heavens in 2015, with the exception of the tetrad moon and solar eclipses which started in 2014, has been a very quiet year for signs in the heavens. The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory detected its 3000th comet on September 13, 2015, and there was a rare full moon on December 25th. There will not be another full moon on December 25th until 2034.
Prophecy Sign: Flooding
Luke 21:25 – “And upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring . . .”
Major flooding occurred in Texas and Oklahoma during May, in California and South Carolina during October, and in Oregon during December. Overseas floods impacted Ireland, Great Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Albania, the Balkans, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, Malaysia, and several other nations as well. The United Kingdom has seen unprecedented flooding. Cyclone Chapala dropped a decade’s worth of rain in Yemen during November, alone. In South America, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil received torrential rains in December, the worst in over fifty years, forcing over 100,000 people to evacuate in Paraguay, and another 40,000 in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.
Prophecy Sign: Famines/Pestilences
Luke 21:11 – “There will also be famines and pestilences . . .”
Famines and pestilences continue to plague Ethiopia, South Sudan, and other parts of Africa. Syria continues to experience famine due to the civil war, and Yemen also experienced famines due to war. North Korea continues to suffer due to severe drought. Dengue fever broke out in India and Ebola has re-emerged in Liberia. The diseases of tuberculosis (some of which are multi-drug-resistant), scarlet fever, cholera, and scurvy are increasing at alarming rates in England, Iraq, and Rwanda, killing over 4,100 people daily according to the World Health Organization. In the United States, legionnaires disease hit New York City, Indiana saw an increase in HIV infections, Kansas experienced dozens of tuberculosis infections, and drug resistant forms of head lice were reported in twenty-five states.
Prophecy Sign: Mass Deaths
Hosea 4:3. –“The beasts of the field, the fowls of heaven; and the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.”
As of November 20th there were 771 known mass death events across 95 countries just that month. The figures for the year are astronomical. These deaths include fish, whales, turtles, birds, cattle, and butterflies.
Other Signs
Tornadoes/Cyclones
According to the NOAA National Weather Service, as of December 25, 2015 there have been 1197 confirmed tornadoes in the United States, of which 414 hit just in the month of May. This is about 200 more tornadoes this year than last year. India, Myanmar, Brazil, Northern Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, China, Manitoba, and Australia also experienced one or more tornadoes this year. Yemen was even hit by a two cyclones in November!
Volcanoes
Volcanic activity in 2015 is once again on the rise. Both Kilauea and Mauna Loa in Hawaii showed elevated signs. Italy’s Mount Etna erupted on December 3rd. The Kanlaon volcano in the Philippines also erupted in December, as did Costa Rica’s Turrialba and Nicaragua’s Momotombo. Mexico’s Colima had numerous eruptions, one a double eruption followed by a third just a week later. Japan’s Mount Aso erupted in September without warning. Ecuador’s Cotopaxi erupted in August for the first time in 140 years. Manam volcano in Papua New Guinea had a major eruption in August for the first time in 11 years.
Conclusions
Mark 13:8 – “. . . . These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.”
The question of whether the heavenly and earthly signs are increasing as do birth pains during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, is a valid question for the days in which we live. Earthquake and volcano activity are both on the rise, but overall, I believe that the birth pains have not yet fully manifested. Before the world is verifiably experiencing what Yeshua terms birth pangs, false prophets will arise who will mislead many, lawlessness must increase, and the gospel will be preached to all the nations. Only after these things, will the third trimester pangs begin and the end come.
Final Thought
Prophecy continues to unfold as foretold by the Hebrew Prophets. The day is coming when Yahweh will show his strength on the mountains of Israel. What is prophesied will come to pass, what is foretold will be made known. Time is short – Yeshua Ha’Mashiach is coming soon – get busy reaching the lost.
