Prophecy Sign: Earthquakes
Mark 13:8 – “There will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines . . .”
Luke 21:11 – “And there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.”
The question of whether earthquakes are increasing is a common question about the timing of end times prophecies. Scripture states that “great” earthquakes will appear in various (or diverse) places and that they will be like the beginning of birth pains. The total number of quakes has increased each year since 2012.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

This year, 2018 has been another remarkably quiet year for “great” earthquakes, but the total number of earthquakes (177163) are 6.9 times the average (25721 from 2000 to 2012) and over 9.67 times the amount in 2012 (18328). As of December 1, 2018, the numbers are:

1. Quakes in the 8.0 and above range were 100% of the average since 1900 (1).
2. Quakes in the 7.0 to 7.9 range (16) were 107% of the average since 1900 (15).
3. Quakes in the 6.0 to 6.9 range (117) were 87% of the average since 1900 (134).
4. The number of large earthquakes (134) were 11% below the average since 1900 (150).
5. The total number of earthquakes (177163) is 9.67 times greater than the total number in 2012 (18328),
6. The total number of earthquake (177163) 1.94 times greater than the total number in 2013 (91423).
7. The total number of earthquakes (177163), is 5.58 times greater than in any of the years prior to 2012 (31777 in 2008).

Prophecy Sign: Signs In The Heavens
Luke 21:25 – “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.”
The heavens in 2018 were alive and well. January came in with a Super Blue Moon on January 27th. The longest Blood Moon of the century rose in the skies on July 27th. Yet another Super Moon rose on Sukkot, September 24th. On November 10, the skies were lit up with a strange glow that looked like a flying Phoenix over Senja, Norway.

Prophecy Sign: Flooding
Luke 21:25 – “And upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring . . .”
Major flooding in many areas this year has occurred. The Montecito mudslides in Southern California followed the Santa Barbara Thomas Fires: 129 homes were destroyed, 307 damaged, and 21 people died as a result. Broome, Australia flooded in January and February; East Africa saw floods from March to June; Sri Lanka in May; torrential downpours caused flooding and mudslides in Japan from June to July. Viet Nam flooded in June, and then in September, and yet again in November. A dam in Laos failed in July; Kerala, India and North Korea both flooded in August; Trinidad and Tobago in October. In September a 7.5 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia set off a tsunami, impacting over 2.4 million people. Even the deserts of Saudi Arabia were flooded this year in December, killing at least 30 people. Flooding took place in many of the areas previously hit by wildfires. December also saw a huge wave hit Cuba and Peru.

Prophecy Sign: Famines/Pestilences
Luke 21:11 – “There will also be famines and pestilences . . .”
Despite increases in food aid, conditions continue to worsen in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. All three are now in Phase III food crisis, but Ethiopia and Somalia are just below Phase IV, acute food insecurity, and Somalia could reach Phase V, full-fledged famine. An estimated 124 million people in 51 countries are currently facing Crisis food insecurity or worse. severe hunger cases in Yemen have jumped up 25% from last year. The people of Somalia, South Sudan, The Democratic Republic of Congo, The Central African Republic, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Syria are all facing famines due to the continuing conflicts in each of those regions.

Prophecy Sign: Mass Deaths (Updated 1/14/19)
Hosea 4:3 –“The beasts of the field, the fowls of heaven; and the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.”
As of December 30th there were 388known mass death events across 67 countries. The figures for the year are astronomical. These deaths include fish, fish, and more fish, including whales, dolphins, seals, and turtles. Birds, chickens, ducks, pigs, and cattle round out the astronomical figures. Once again, the hardest hit are the fish and other sea creatures, followed closely by the bird populations. The Bee population continues to be hit hard this year, with 171 known mass death events in 36 countries.

The End Times Prophecy Organization website says it this way: “Millions of Fish and massive numbers of various marine creatures are washing ashore dead. Birds are falling dead out of the sky, and millions of poultry and wildlife are dying from avian flu. The animals of the land are also dying in large numbers. . . . Whatever the cause, we know one thing for certain, that this was prophesied to happen in the Bible.” [Bold emphasis mine]

Conclusions
Mark 13:8 – “. . . . These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.”
Luke 21:11 – “And there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.”
Natural disasters around the world occurred at an alarming rate in 2018. Every few weeks another natural disaster seemed to hit the planet in one area or another, often in several places at the same time. Earthquakes and fires demolished entire towns or cities, wildfires burned hundreds of thousands of acres – unprecedented in past history. Tornadoes, cyclones, even dust storms hit the planet, many of which also caused mass flooding and loss of life. The birth pangs may, indeed, be breaking forth.

Final Thought
Prophecy as foretold by the Hebrew prophets continues to unfold in an escalating pattern. The stage is nearly completely set. The great and terrible Day of Yahweh, Joseph’s Trouble, hastens forth and will not delay. Time is short – Yeshua Ha’Mashiach is coming soon – get busy reaching the lost.
