For the past two years, I have focused on Understanding the Scriptures, with many long and, hopefully, stimulating posts. In this crazy election season, however, I feel that a little pint-sized scripture lesson, with just a hint of humor, might be appropriate, so here is a short Bible study for ya’all to enjoy:
The Lighter Side of Scripture
Remember what Yeshua said about right and left: “He will set the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.” (Matthew 25:33)
Yeshua also told Peter that if he wanted to catch fish there is a correct way to do so: “He said, ‘Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some‘.” (John 21:6)
Have you ever wondered why it is that Conservatives are called the “right” and Liberals are called the “left“? Perchance, scripture also has the answer to this question: “A wise man’s heart inclines him toward the right, but a fool’s heart toward the left.” (Ecclesiastes 10:2)
The Serious Side — Do Rightly
Deuteronomy 6:18 – “You shall do what is right and good in the sight of Yahweh, that it may be well with you . . .”
1 Kings 14:8 – “My servant David did only that which was right in my sight.”
Isaiah 56:1, Jeremiah 22:3 & 23:5 – “Thus says the LORD, ‘Preserve justice and do what is right’.”
James 4:17 – “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.”
Conclusions
Right is right and left is left, he said with a chuckle. Right is right and wrong is wrong, he said seriously. It surely can’t get any simpler than that. Amen.
